Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve | Short Rides from Bengaluru

Panoramic grasslands dotted with blackbucks, fantastic winding roads, and a delicious breakfast stop make the ride to Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve one of the most enjoyable motorcycle circuits around Bengaluru.

With 260 km of smooth tarmac, flowing corners, open countryside, and a destination that remains refreshingly free of crowds, this circuit is perfect for riders looking to escape the city and simply enjoy the journey.

Route Overview

Total Distance: Approximately 260 km (round trip)

Route:

Bengaluru → Devanahalli → Avati → Chikkaballapur → Kodagadala → Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve → Koratagere → Urdigere → Dobbaspet → Bengaluru

The ride begins on the fast-flowing NH-44 towards Devanahalli before stopping at the delicious Ranganna Tiffin Centre in Avati for breakfast. From here, the route transforms completely.

The beautifully surfaced Chikkaballapur–Madhugiri State Highway winds through rocky hillocks, open countryside and sweeping curves that are a delight on almost any motorcycle.

As the roads open up, you’re welcomed by the expansive grasslands of the Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve – one of Karnataka’s largest protected grassland ecosystems and home to graceful blackbucks and numerous bird species.

Unlike many popular weekend destinations around Bengaluru, Jayamangali remains remarkably peaceful, making it the perfect place to simply stop, breathe and enjoy the landscape.

Return Route Options

After exploring the reserve, you can return to Bengaluru using either of these excellent routes:

  • Option 1 : Jayamangali → Koratagere → Urdigere → Dobbaspet → Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR/NH-648) → Bengaluru

Both roads are in excellent condition – choose the one that best suits your final destination within Bengaluru.

Best Time to Ride

The ideal time is to leave Bengaluru before sunrise and reach the reserve early in the morning.

Recommended:

  • Weekday mornings
  • Early weekend departures before city traffic builds up
  • Winter and post-monsoon months offer the most pleasant weather

The grasslands become quite warm after around 9:00 AM, so arriving early allows you to enjoy the reserve in cooler temperatures and softer morning light.

Road Conditions:

One of the highlights of this circuit is the consistently excellent road quality.

Expect:

  • Smooth dual carriageways on NH-44
  • Flowing state highways with gentle elevation changes
  • Scenic bends after Chikkaballapur
  • Long sweeping corners towards Madhugiri
  • Excellent tarmac suitable for supersport, sport touring, naked, cruiser and adventure motorcycles

This route is ideal for:

  • Solo riders
  • Women riders
  • Couples
  • Small riding groups of 4–6 motorcycles

Remember that these are public roads, so enjoy the corners responsibly, obey speed limits and ride courteously through villages.

Fuel, Food & Facilities:

Premium Fuel

Premium fuel is easy to find before leaving NH-44.

You’ll find several:

  • IndianOil XP95 stations
  • Shell fuel stations

at Devanahalli, Chikkaballapur and Dobbaspet.

Public Toilets

There are no dedicated public toilet facilities along most of the route, so plan accordingly.

Food & Water

Once inside the reserve:

  • No food stalls
  • No drinking water
  • No cafés

Carry sufficient drinking water and a few snacks.

If someone in your riding group is on an adventure motorcycle, let them bring a flask of fresh filter coffee. Sitting quietly in the grasslands over coffee is one of the simplest pleasures this ride offers.😍
