The word-of-mouth marketing about the Pumpernickel German Bakery ensured it topped the list of MUST-EAT places in Leh. The story of a German traveler who fell in love with Leh and started this bakery as a means to survive lingered – although I couldn’t verify the story from the owner of the bakery ( He wasn’t a German for sure : P )
Located on Zangsti Road in the main market of Leh, it cannot be missed with its big yellow board. The bakery now boasts of an restaurant as well – who take their own sweet time to serve and the food wasn’t worthy of mention.

Now back to the bakery, we started with their most famous creation aka Coconut Cookie and it was mind-blowingly good ๐

Followed by a Muesli Cookie which tasted much worse than a solidified sugarless Museliย and a walnut cake (I think) which tasted more like a caramel cake – both were big disappointments ๐

My brother decided to take a chance with the Choco Danish and it tasted like heaven ๐

MUST HAVES:
- Coconut Cookies – 25 INR/cookie
- Choco Danish – 35 INR

ABSOLUTE DISASTERS:
- Walnut or Caramel Cake – 50 INR/piece
- Muesli Cookie – 25 INR/cookie
- Choco-ball – 25 INR/ball
- Chocolate Cookie – 20 INR/cookie – PLEASE AVOID THIS, UNLESS YOU WANT TO START HATING CHOCOLATES
Verdict:
The quality of food has diminished, so I wouldn’tย spend my money again at this place.
The Pumpernickel German Bakery didn’t turn out to be as delicious as I had expected, but is indeed a nice place to start some good conservations ๐
